Rainer Mees – „Der Mees" – is a mentalist and stage artist and, at the same time, an AI expert: a synthesis of artist and technology that is unique in Germany, where intuition meets intelligence. We met at one of his hypnosis seminars in Cologne. A great day, a great evening. The Gentlemen's Club stayed with me over the following months, and a friendship developed with Rainer. So it was only natural to visit his show „No Lies" at the Das Walzwerk theatre in Pulheim. Marco Seypelt plays a special role in it – in the truest sense of the word: everything the audience hears and sees is underscored by the gifted pianist with sensitive, improvised sounds. Light-footed, seated in the background and yet fully present.
The show wasn't heavily promoted, and I thought I roughly knew what was coming. After all, people „know" Rainer in the scene. Today I know: Rainer Mees wouldn't be Rainer Mees if he ever wanted to meet even a SINGLE expectation of anyone. You know those special first lines in a book – after the first page at the latest, you sense that something beautiful is coming your way. Rainer created exactly that kind of first magical moment.
it is pure and real. His stories from life turn the stage upside down. That he fascinates the audience with his enchanting visions – almost in passing – is so wonderful that I keep hoping the show will never end. There are hard moments that take your breath away, and moments I become so immersed in that I fervently hope they will turn out well. On stage, the two men are a symbiosis.
I know Rainer. Now I know the person behind the name. No Lies has no programme. There is only him. And yes, of course – his „tricks" were fantastic.
With „Herznote", mentalist and artist Der Mees goes a step further from 2026: away from the effect, towards feeling. It is the show that begins where algorithms end – with people, with genuine encounter, with the one note that lingers. Quieter, closer and more direct, it speaks of what connects us as human beings while the world around us grows ever more digital.
While one half of his life works with artificial intelligence, „Herznote" is the deliberate counterpart: analogue, warm, unrepeatable. No screen between stage and audience – just one evening, some music, a few stories and whatever still resonates in your gut the next morning.
You forget data. Feelings never. That is exactly what „Herznote" is for – for the moment no machine can store and no stream can repeat.
